Kaminey Review Kaminey |
Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Amol Gupte, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Tenzing Nima, Shiv Subrahmanyam, Hrishikesh Joshi
Director: Vishal Bharadwaj
The role done by Shahid in Kaminey is something which is impossible to execute when read on paper. With his outstanding performance in the film, Shahid is now in star actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan.
The on-screen chemistry of Shahid and Priyanka is really amazing and nice. After "Kaminey", audiences would be expecting a lot from him each time.
Director Vishal Bharadwaj has redefined the entire concept of filmmaking with "Kaminey". This is more than something what people will get to see in Bollywood usually. Vishal has taken his concepts from Guy Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino brands of cinema, adapting it perfectly to a Bollywood environment.
Audience get to experience a world that has perhaps never been explored before in the Indian movies. The characters are introduced in the initial 30 minutes at the same time he has ensured that the twin brothers are not seen in the same frame till the interval.
The audience also have a good treat for their intelligence levels with a couple of sequences that have been directed in totally haphazard fashion.
Set in Mumbai, a major part of the movie has been shot in real locations. The director's insistence on doing the shots outdoors has paid off as the backdrop becomes difficult to unscramble from the elements of this thriller.
The entire movie revolves around the life of the two brothers who are on the run for different reasons. Guddu (Shahid) suddenly gets married to Sweety, played by Priyanka Chopra who has executed her relatively short but meaningful and vital role, in a superb way. He is now being followed by Sweety's brother (Amol Gupte).
Charlie (Shahid), the twin of Guddu, has obtained drugs worth Rs.10 crore and is now ready to sell them off to fulfil his long cherished dreams.
Then there are the cops, gangsters, international drug mafia, narcotics department, a 'Jai Maharashtra' slogan-raising “bhai”, an over-'coked' friend and his two mad Bengali brothers – all of them together makes the entire ride of “Kaminey" an entertaining one.
The film kicks off on a decent not despite the fact that it is slightly difficult to understand the script initially. Only after the initial 30 odd minutes, the audience will really understand what exactly happens, but still there will be a feel that there could have been a little more meat to the proceedings.
But, the scenes after the interval make 'Kaminey' simply irresistible. Its slowly unveils the dark as well as humane side of people and finally offers the audience with an explosive climax.
In short, “Kaminey" is one among the few must watch films of 2009. Experience the thrill which unwinds as you watch this Vishal Bharadwaj – Shahid Kapoor deadly combo.
