Kandhasamy is typically a commercial masala movie but looks different just because of the Midas touch given by master craftsmen like Susi Ganesan and Vikram. Yet another plus point for the success of this movie is the time during which has been released. People are desperate to watch a really good movie as the ones which have been released recently are full of crap.
Vikram-Thanu-Susi Ganesan combination is, of course, the biggest winner of this season with a perfect, hi-styled commercial film that follows an evergreen theme of the emergence of a ‘Robin Hood’ against the corrupted society.
But let me tell you this movie is not a superhero kind of movie. Indisputably, this is one among the supreme imaginations of a creator like Susi Ganesan who has joined hands with a producer like Thanu. Thanu actually is best person who should be credited with this victory, as he is a producer who is passionate about Tamil cinema.
Let me just give what the movie is all about.
As the movie starts, what the audience get to see is a scene where poor people are praying at a Subramanian Temple at the outskirts of Chennai. They simply send their prayers to Kandhasamy, another Tamil name of Lord Subramanian, through letters which are tied to something known as the “petition tree” which grows in front of the temple. A Few minutes later Kandhasamy, essayed by Chiyan Vikram, collects the letters and helps them according to their needs.
A few more similar incidents and Kandasamy is designated as the local god for the people. But very soon, his ‘Robin Hood” act is noticed by the police. The local DIG of Police, essayed by the ace actor Prabhu, gets suspicious about the unnatural nature of incidents and starts his investigations.
Then only the audience get a chance to see the other face of Vikram in the movie and that is none other than the strict, powerful and intelligent CBI officer Kandhasamy. He is on a mission to find out black money and illegal wealth of the rich and corrupt Indians stashed in foreign banks, which he believes is responsible for all the crimes happening in the society.
But this causes a clash between our hero and Pallur Paramajyoti Ponnusamy (which is essayed by Ashish Vidyarthi, who is a man with a golden tooth and greedy heart. Kandhasamy raids in his palatial bungalow and discovers unaccounted cash and documents of various foreign deals including his Mexican connections.
Ashish Vidyarthy is shattered after this raid and his only daughter Subbalakshmi (done by Shriya Saran) decides to avenge Vikram and acts as is if she is love with Kandhasamy.
Then comes a point where it is revealed that both the Kandhasamys are the same. But a CBI senior official protects Kandhasamy during this crisis.
Why is Kadhasamy doing the Robin Hood act? Why this senior officer does protect him? Will the DIG succeed in proving that Kandhasamy is no God? That is what the rest of the movie all about.
Despite it seems as if this movie is a combo of Anniyan adn Sivaji, Susi Ganesan has indeed been successful in providing a 3.15 minutes roller coaster ride with all the needy ingredients without any questions even in some illogical moments. The introduction scene of the hero is outstanding. Technically this movie is one more milestone in Tamil cinema.
But the major drawback of the movie is the length. He could have shortened it but avoiding certain scenes with the villains.
Vikram rocks both as the CBI officer Kandhasamy and as the local Robin Hood. Vikaram steals the show when he appears as “Aishwarya Rai”. The presence of Charly and Mayilsamy make the scene very hilarious.
Certainly, Kandhasamy is an additional feather to Vikram’s cap. He deserves this after coming up in life facing lost of struggles. Prabhu has exhibited his talent once again as the investigating officer. Susi Ganesan also appears in a cameo role.
Kandhasamy is a must watch for all those want to enjoy the weekend.
