A Melting Himalayan Glacier
Noted Environmentalist and chairman of Noble winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, RK Pachauri, at the convocation of the Military college of Telecommunication Engineering drew a direct relationship between global warming and terrorism in the country.

Rajendra Pachauri claims that melting snows in the northern Himalayas could open up passages for terrorists infiltrating the country. Also, because of the melting of the glaciers, this would disrupt water supply in the northern part of the subcontinent which will also sharpen the already tense relations with our neighbors.

He goes on to say the Indian Army will be torn between humanitarian relief operations and guarding India’s borders against climate refugees as ever-rising sea levels  will engulf low-lying areas, forcing millions across India’s borders, mostly from countries such as Myanmar.

Dr. Pachauri states that the change in rainfall patterns has political implications also. It will hamper rainfed agriculture, worsen poverty and create an agitated group of farmers who can be misused for narrow political purposes.
