Aamir’s Effigy Burnt Due to ‘Peepli Live’ Aamir Khan |
Villagers of Vidarbha region held protest against Aamir’s ‘Peepli Live’, which as per them is an attempt to belittle the farmer’s suicide incidents. The infuriated farmer’s burnt Aamir’s effigy to show their sign of anger and protest.
Some years back, the cases of farmer’s suicide were like the daily eye-catchers, some or the other farmer would commit suicide, which would lead to ruining of one more family. The area of Yavatmal, Vidarbha, 160 kms near Nagpur was the epicenter of such cases.
The farmers have demanded an immediate ban on the movie as it has hurt the sentiments of hundreds of widows and made them remember their dreadful days.
President Kishore Tiwari, Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti adds, “It is an insult to poor farmers of Vidarbha who have been victims of globalization and wrong policies of the state. We will not tolerate further as this movie revolves around a debt ridden farmer committing suicide for the sake of compensation, trivializing the issue and is far from reality. Producer Khan should have consulted some experts before finalizing the script.”
This is the first case of any protest like this related to ‘Peepli Live’ and there is no immediate response from film-maker Aamir till now.
