The American handset carrier Verizon has launched the Chinese handset, the ZTE Salute in the US. This is the first major agreement for ZTE with a top US wireless carrier.

ZTE is also making strong efforts to expand its market by planning its release in some other networks such as Sprint and T-Mobile.

According to sources, the Salute smartphone will be available for a two year contract of $19.99 per month.

The salute sports a 2.4-inch screen with many features like a 1.3 MP camera, a 2.5 mm headset jack, turn-by-turn navigation functions, Bing Search and downloadable games and wallpapers. There is also Backup Assistant to assist in copying the important ones from the address book.

The mobile phone also offers a nice platform for the networking in the form of a Social Beat application that will allow users to access social networks like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace from a single interface.

Speaking to the media, Jeff Ji, the ZTE executive for the US division, said, “It’s a very good start. We are actively working with all tier-one operators in the U.S.”
