Samir Karnik comes back once again with his favorite Bobby Deol and child star Dwij Yadav in his new movie, ‘Vaada Raha…I Promise’. He had acted with the same cast in his previous movies, ‘Nanhe Jaisalmar’ and ‘Heroes’.
‘Vaada Raha’ is undeniably a beautiful story, yet the movie is great disappointment. It is based on an interesting idea but the script and direction has completely marred the effective presentation of the movie.
The movie is originally inspired by a Russian fable, which depicts the delicate bond between an adult and a kid. The story shows the wonders a kid’s presence can do to a heart-broken person.
The movie casts Bobby in the role of Duke as a successful doctor. Duke is doing well in both his professional as well as personal life. He is in deep love with Nalini (Kangna Ranaut) whom he is to marry soon. He has a pet dog whom he loves and cares like his family member.
As preconceived, misfortune awaits the protagonist and he meets with an accident. Though he narrowly escapes death, he could not stand to the blow of destiny which leaves him paralyzed from neck down.
He could have at least fought with his condition if Nalini had stood by his side. To his shock, he finds that his dream girl ditches him in time of need and goes away from him. This part of the movie fails to convince the audience as it seems highly unacceptable that someone who loved so deeply walks off one’s life so abruptly.
Anger and frustration overcome the best part of Duke and he starts wishing to die rather than living this type of life. It is at this point that the child Roshan (Dwij Yadav) walks into his life. Despite initial resentment, Duke begins to grow close to the boy.
Roshan acts as the moral booster for Duke and he regains his hope and interest to live. Gradually, his condition improves and he gains sensation in his hands and legs. Another misery befalls him when one day the doctor tries to make him walk with the help of clutches. Watch the movie to find out what is the other misfortune for this tragic hero, Duke.
Karnik uses his usual arena of emotions in the movie but the script is too poor to produce the desired effect. Even the ending of the movie is unimpressive and unacceptable, which shows Duke getting married to Kangna despite the betrayal.
The dialogues are improper and poorly written. The young boy is given such high flown dialogues that one cannot believe them coming from such a small boy. They don’t suit the age of the child at all and seems very much artificial.
However, one can find some commendable sequences in the movie, though they are very few in number. Binod Pradhan has done a good work as the cinematographer. Even the music of the movie is not inspiring.
Coming to the star cast, Bobby Deol and Dwij are perhaps the only actors in the movie whom the audience will appreciate. Kangna is a wonderful actress but her talent is not exploited properly in the movie. Mohnish Behl has also done a good job, though he could have done a better job provided the script and direction was apt to mark.
On the whole, the movie is a total disappointment and fails to impress despite a good star cast. The movie tends to be stagnant at times and thus, the flow is hampered. Besides, poor publicity does it work well in spoiling its effect.
