The much awaited small car, Toyota Etios was first unveiled at Auto Expo 2010.The new model specifically designed for Indian customers is a step towards the new approach being adapted by the big international auto manufacturers . Toyota's philosophy for the Etios is 'World first, India first' as the car(s), is to introduce the concept in the Indian market before it makes its world debut.
The Etios version comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine while the hatchback model will comprise of a 1.2-litre petrol motor. Both engines have been newly designed and explicitly for Indian conditions. The high mileage was a key factor in the design. The unveiling of the new model took place in presence top officials from the Toyota Motor Corporation which included Vice-chairman Kazuo Okamoto and Senior Managing Director, Akira Okabe.
Kazuo Okamoto said, "Our highest priority will be to make every effort to exceed the Indian customers' expectations and the introduction of the Etios concept today is the first step in this direction." Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Hiroshi Nakagawa said, "With the introduction of the Etios, Toyota will enter the mass volume segment and we are looking at a sales volume of 70,000 units in the first year."
