The smartphone will then allow device-to-device connections with the speed and range of Wireless 802.11b/g/n. So, the user doesn’t need any wireless access point or wireless router for the same. Samsung’s generic GT-I9000 is already listed as WiFi Direct compatible device on the WiFi Alliance’s site.
There are a number of latest Wi-Fi devices that are capable of becoming Wi-Fi Direct certified. They must be fed through system updates as there is no hardware change in the protocol.
