Director: Milind Ukey
Starring: Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia, Nana Patekar
Swaraswati Vidya Mandir School is a school which is focussed to nurture kids and believes that teaching is a noble profession. The principal of the school, Aditya Sahay (Nana Patekar) is an ideal principal who has not married to concentrate on his school. Soon, the trustees of the school realises that the school is not generating enough revenue and gets into a brand building exercise.
In mid of all this, a new English Teacher Rahul Prakash Udyavar (Shahid Kapoor) is recruited. As time passes, Rahul who loves his profession becomes popular among kids and his co-teachers. But, later he realises that something wrong is happening in the institution. Rahul decides to find out the issue and was horrified to find out that in the name of extracurricular activities the school management is asking for heavy amount from the parents and when the parents are unable to pay the required money their kids are punished and are treated in-humanly.
Slowly-slowly the situation worsens and becomes a national issue. The last 10 minutes of the film is a must watch. It is the scene between the two lead actors Nana Patekar and Shahid Kapoor which has the maximum impact.
Paathshala can be said an initiative to show the real picture of today’s educational institutes which has just become a business for the people and the true meaning of education has lost somewhere.
Ayesha Takia is wasted in the film. The music of the flick is given by Hanif Shaikh and has two good numbers.
