Kathryn Bigelow, the director of Iraq war drama ‘The Hurt Locker’ made history at the 82nd Academy Awards by becoming the first women to win the best director award.

Kathryn Bigelow looked extremely delighted with the award and called it ‘the moment of a lifetime.’

The overwhelmed director said, "It's so extraordinary to be in the company of my fellow nominees, such powerful filmmakers, who have inspired me and I have admired, some of them for decades."

‘The Hurt Locker’ is a low budget movie but it managed to beat some of the Hollywood’s most expensive flicks like ‘Avatar’ and ‘Inglourious Basterds’. James Cameron, the director of blockbuster hit ‘Avatar’ and ex-husband of Kathryn Bigelow, jumped with joy when her name was announced and shouted, ‘Yes, yes’.
