The upcoming flick ‘No One Killed Jessica’ which is based on Jessica Lall murder case is most awaited by movie buffs. While everyone is anticipating it to be a highly thrilling entertainer, the real life characters have to be identified as they all have been renamed to avoid any kind of legal trouble.
The Rajkumar Gupta directed movie under the UTV Motion Picures banner has Vidya Balan and Rani Mukerji as the two leading ladies. The flick will hit the theatres this Friday.
According to reports, they initially planned to recreate the entire murder case with real details and even Gupta wanted to offer Shayan Munshi to play the real part. Munshi is the prime witness in the 1999 murder case.
But legal advisors recommended not using the origianl names to avoid legal and financial complexity. Therefore all the persons involved including main accused Manu Sharma and all the prime witnesses in the killing case have been renamed in the flick.
Gupta confirming on adopting fictional names said,"You will have to see the film to see why we have done what we have with the characters. Beyond that I don`t want to comment on the names of the characters."
UTV’s Siddharth Roy Kapoor on camouflaging original characters says,"The film is Rajkumar Gupta’s creative interpretation of Sabrina`s journey, her trials, tribulations and finally vindication after Jessica’s demise. So, we felt Jessica’s was the only character that needed to be specifically indentifiable.”
Meanwhile a source divulging more about the renaming says,"The film decided to backtrack on real names when eyewitnesses and other people associated with the Jessica Lal case began to make urgent and anxious inquiries about the film. The characters are still easily identifiable. Only their names have been disguised.”
"In our country any film based on real incidents immediately invites legal and financial trouble. The makers of `No One Killed Jessica` didn`t want to be stuck in dozens of legal snags and moral debates. That`s why all the names have been changed."
So it is for the viewers to identify the characters and we need to wait till Friday to know the naming mystery.
