The Indian-made $35 laptop is set to hit markets in January 2011, reports said on Thursday.

With the technology revolution growing at rapid pace across the globe, India’s first $35-low cost laptop is seen as a major breakthrough in the technology front.

India would ship the first batch of laptops somewhere around early 2011. The laptop would come with a 7-inches wide screen, web browsing, video conferencing facilities, sci-lab, WiFi and other standard features.

The device is also anticipated to have YouTube and Internet features besides having 2GB of storage capacity.

The Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal had unveiled the device in July. With the aim of making it more helpful for school students to universities, the government was in talks with major technology firms for manufacturing the laptop. According to sources, HCL will be making the laptop.

Indian government is also trying to bring down the price of laptop to $10 through bulk orders.

“This is part of the national initiative to take forward inclusive education. The solutions for tomorrow will emerge from India,” said Sibal during the launch.
