HP is updating its ultraportable laptop and hybrid laptop-tablet with Intel Core i5 and i7 processors- making them the most powerful laptops in their class.
Previously, the Core i series processors have only powered desktops and large laptop computers. HP’s lightweight EliteBook 2540p and 2740p will come with the option of these powerful processors. The 2540p laptop can be fitted with or come without an optical drive. Without an optical drive, the laptop can fit in a 2.5-inch 7200RPM SATAII hard disk. With the optical drive, the laptops ships with the smaller 1.8-inch 5400RPM SATA II drive that comes with a maximum capacity of 320GB. The 2740p has the same specs as the 2540p but does not come with the option of the 1.8-inch SATA drive.
Other features include USB 2.0, VGA, DisplayPort, 1394a, and gigabit Ethernet ports. And an option for an integrated EV-DO/HSPA 3G modem is also available too.
The 12-inch screen 2540p that is powered by the ‘low-voltage’ Core i7 chip boasts of a battery life of upto 10 hours with a nine-cell battery unit. The EliteBook 2540p starts at $1099 while the 2740p will start at $1599, they are expected to release this April.
