HP’s latest notebook-the New Mini 5101 Notebook is a god-send for people on move. It promises many exciting features.

It has a reworked chiclet keyboard, 7200 RPM HDD, 2 megapixel webcam, optional Hi-Definition 10.1 inch LED screen with resolution of the order of 1366x768 pixels in addition to SSD options.

Its hardware features include a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom processor N280 processor with 512MB L2 cache, 533MHz FSB and is paired with the Intel 945GSE chipset. It supports up to 2GB 533MHz DDR2 memory and up to 320GB SATA HDD or 128GB SSD for storage. It also has a Intel Mobile GMA 950 graphics and HD Audio support for integrated speakers as well as microphone.

The company offers a 10.1inch WSVGA display of resolution 1024x600 along with the option for Hi-Definition 1366x768 display screen with LED backlight.

It comes with a 2 megapixel built-in webcam to assist in video-conferencing. It is Wi-fi enabled with Wi-Fi 802.11n.

The new chiclet keyboard is 5% newer than the regular notebook keyboards. Th buttons of the mouse have been placed below the multi-touch supporting trackpad.

The netbook runs on Windows Vista Home Basic and there is also an option for FreeDOS. HP will also offer a QuickSync software for download in September that will allow better syncing of the netbook with other systems.

An outstanding feature of the netbook is the HP DriveGuard technology featuring three-axis digital accelerometer chip which shuts down the hard disk on sudden movement or shock. With the six-cell battery pack, the laptop can run up to eight hours.

It is priced at around Rs. 22,000.
