Over the case of Aruna Shanbaug’s passive euthanasia, the B-Town is again abuzz with the mercy killing concept. Even actor Hrithik Roshan of Guzaarish is in support of euthanasia.

 

Hrithik played the character of a paraplegic who fights in the court asking for euthanasia in his movie Guzaarish. However, even in the movie, the suffering magician played by him was not allowed mercy killing. Hrithik said, "Any act that ends consistent suffering in any form must be lauded. Mercy killing—in its passive version—must be allowed in cases that merit it. But a system needs to be set in place to process the information and make a decision. This is a good beginning... euthanasia will be a boon for those who are suffering to a degree which you and I cannot imagine."

 

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the euthanasia appeal by journalist Pinki Virani for a rape victim Aruna Shanbaug who is leading the life of a vegetable since the incident about 37 years ago. She is admitted in the KEM Hospital where once she was a nurse.
