Facebook has shut down its Lite version of the social networking site. The Lite version was the stripped down version of the original site in September 2009.
The company had launched the Lite version for low bandwidth connections and for those who faced issues accessing the full version of Facebook on slower connections.
Users can now access the previous Facebook Lite URL,http://lite.facebook.com now via Facebook webpage. The conformation came through the company’s fan page.
Facebook said, "Thanks to everyone who tried out Facebook Lite. We're no longer supporting it, but learned a lot from the test of a slimmed-down site. If you used Lite, you'll now be taken to the main Facebook.com site".
However, Facebook hasn't given any other explanation for the shutting down of the service.
Facebook Lite also offered all of the functionalities like the original Facebook such as adding new friends, writing on walls, sending messages and sharing images and videos. However, there was no scope for the apps developers to build new applications.
