American music singer, songwriter, Ellie Greenwich, passed away after a heart attack at the St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital, New York City, where she had been admitted a few days earlier for the treatment of pneumonia. She was the person behind some of music tycoon Phil Spector's biggest hits.
The legendary songwriter, Ellie Greenwich, had penned down the huge hits like, ‘Be My Baby and Baby’, ‘I Love You’, Mountain High for Ike & Tina Turner, the Shangri-La’s Leader of the Pack and River Deep, and many others.
The songwriter was discovered by composers Leiber and Stoller and had shot to fame in 1991. Broadway show ‘Leader of the Pack’ was co-written by Ellie Greenwich which is based on her life.
Ellie Greenwich also singed some songs with stars, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Dusty Springfield and Neil Diamond.
Ellie Greenwich also wrote ‘Manfred Mann’s Doo Wah Diddy Diddy’ and festive favourite ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’ which was recorded by Darlene Love.
