BlackBerry Storm 2 On Sale In Australia BlackBerry Storm 2 |
Research in Motion has revealed the BlackBerry Storm 2 to counter the iPhone threat. The move is an attempt to join the race to acquire malor market space in touchscreen segment.
The Storm 2 will be on sale in Australia from this month and is expected to face stiff competition from the rival touchscreen makers like the HTC Desire, Samsung Wave and Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10.
The new BlackBerry model is expected to take some time in earning the same popularity as the previously featured QWERTY sets.
However, there is no much more differences in between the previous model and the present BlackBerry Storm2 except some extra weight 0f 5gms, soft-touch rubber buttons in place of silver buttons and elevated screen. However, the Storm2 is lagging in screen resolution than its predecessor.
With the new Storm 2, the users have to type on the touchscreen instead of the QWERTY keypad. And, the device needs to be charged in every evening due to low battery life. Earlier, the previous BlackBerry users could get 2-3 days of battery life with their sets.
The BlackBerry Storm2 has been a stylish set with some improvements like sleek look, touchscreen interface and touch support just tacked on over the top of the set.
The Storm 2 sports an electronic touchscreen (3.2-inch) rather than a mechanical one. It supports many features like support of third-party apps, faster web browsing, selecting text using two fingers and simultaneous use of shift and pressing to capitalise a letter. However, the set does not support multitouch gestures and Adobe Flash.
The other things that the Storm2 provides exclusively include, a built-in WiFi and larger keys in horizontal mode, App World having more than 5000 apps. It is said that only free apps would be provided to the Australians initially.
The BlackBerry Storm2 is having some advancements and some drawbacks, but it proffers nice features that can compete with the iPhone. It can provide true multi-tasking feature like the iPhone when the user holds down the menu key to switch between several open applications. The new device also has a 3.2MP camera with autofocus, a flash and video recording that outsmarts the iPhone's camera.
The Storm2 phone is also unbeatable in push-email and security features. So, all these features make it Jack of all trades but master of none.
The set is coming through Vodafone for $799 outright or for $0 on a $69 per month contract.
