Home Surf Touch tablet, a new tablet from a Britain-based telecom firm, Binatone launched in India at Rs. 9,000.
The company with the aim of bringing low cost tech gadgets to masses has introduced the low-priced tablet.
“We are committed to breaking the barriers of technology reaching the masses,” said Sat Murthi, Executive Vice President Binatone India.
The Home Surf Touch tablet comes resembles Apple’s iPad with an 8-inches wide touch screen, and features including Wi-Fi, Android 1.6 and 2GB storage capacity.
Binatone has huge plans of bringing more tech products at affordable prices into the Indian market and is set to invest Rs 50 crores.
“Binatone plans to invest Rs 50 crores in the next 12 months in technology, product development and marketing. Our products are specifically ‘Indianised’ with special features like Audio boost, Power saver and Binatone Zone, which all have been carefully market researched and implemented to address the specific Indian needs,” he added.
The telecom major is also aiming to bring low-cost 3G devices by the end of 2010.
With the launch of low-cost tablet PC, Binatone has initiated a price war as other technology majors would also come up with competitive prices. When Apple’s iPad and Samsung tablet PCs are ranging between Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 35,000 and above, Binatone move marks more significance.
