In the mark of grace to alight the mission of the music maestros, the icon of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan paid visit to Bhubaneshwar to inaugurate the school jointly opened by Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia and Shiv Kumar Sharma.
‘Vridavan Gurukul’ the school named as is jointly set up by the renowned flute maestro Pandit Chaurasia and santoor maestro Shiv Kumar to dedicate themselves in teaching and promoting India's traditional culture.
It is not only music they are going to promote and teach but will also throw light on to other sections like arts, dance, yoga and meditation techniques for which they had specially arranged a serene atmosphere to help motivate the candidates enrolled in this institute.
The institute is marked in the tradition of Gurukul principles, to which Amitabh highlighted quite impressively by stating, "The entire tradition of guru (teacher) and shishya (student) is by itself a very traditional Indian concept and I think there are a very few institutions and indeed individuals who care for this tradition and want to promote it as their love for the music and their profession has grown.”
It is a dream project for Pandit Chaurasia to enable to train students in Indian music including classical, folk and thumri, he added,"The children will come here and surrender themselves to their teachers. The gurus will adopt them and nurture them.”
To grace this event along with Amitabh, his wife Jaya Bachchan accompanied him where Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik was also present.
