AMD has announced a line-up of laptops and desktops for 2010. The platforms also include the products that use AMD Vision branding such as Vision, Vision Premium, Vision Ultimate and Vision Black.

The new platforms include quad-core processors that can be used in slimline laptops. Apart from that, the gamers can enjoy the latest thrillers through Vision Black branded OCs that use six-core processors. The company has priced the PCs below $1,000 (£665).

According to a company official, the Vision branding provides a string of choices for the users.

"It's an easy way to know if the PC they are buying does what they want it to do. Consumers care more about what a PC can do than about clock speeds and feeds," said Sasa Marinkovic, AMD's senior product marketing manager.

The 2010 ultrathin laptop platform is dubbed as the Nile and comes with specifications that include Turion II Neo and Athlon II Neo processors with ATI Mobility Radeon 4200 integrated graphics. There might be an optional Mobility Radeon HD 5400 discrete chip with the laptop range.

“This is aimed at laptops with 11in to 13in screens and measuring 25mm or less in thickness, but delivers a full HD video experience and up to eight hours' battery life", AMD EMEA marketing manager Michal Lisiecki said.

A company official said the laptops are based on the HP’s Pavilion dm1 and Lenovo's 15in Edge model and proffers about 22% performance improvement over the existing ultrathin platform. There is also support for DirectX 10.1 graphics, the official added.

The laptops can be used with processors up to a quad-core or triple-core Phenom II. The quad-cores dubbed Danube will consume as little as 25W and can suffice all the market segments.

"25W quad-cores open up a completely new area for laptops: thin-and-light quad-core portables," he said.

The integration of six-core Phenom II with dual (or quad) Crossfire capability to the Vision Black specification is also a plus point for AMD to pull users. The new specification goes well with Dell laptops too.

The Vision Black PCs are priced below $1,000 to suit all types of consumers.
