Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan will address the Wharton India Economic Forum on Saturday (21st March). He will speak at the Forum, as part of a panel exploring the impact of India’s booming economy on the Hindi film industry. The 33-year-old junior Bachchan, along with noted filmmaker Rohan Sippy and PVR Cinemas Chairman Ajay Bijli, will be part of a panel on Bollywood’s Silver Screen: Pursuit of the Golden Globe at the 13th edition of the Philadelphia event.
The Wharton India Economic Forum said in a statement on its website that, discussion topics will chart the growth of the industry, encompass the retailing of cinema and exploring the changing landscape in film financing. The forum also will discuss how prolific cinema-making has given way to a quality that is appreciated by a much broader audience.
Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan has blogged about Abhishek’s Wharton engagement and described it as a sign of the expanding reach of Indian cinema. He wrote that 60-70 years ago, no one in the Indian cinema industry would have dreamt about such a day, when Indian cinema would be recognised and appreciated world wide. However, the dream has been fructified today and it shows the rich value Indian cinema enjoy at present, he added.
