The long-awaited tie-up between Volkswagen and Maruti Suzuki has been finally confirmed. Accordingly, Maruti Suzuki India will be selling its A-Star model cars to Volkswagen, which will in turn market it for global markets.
Thus Volkswagen will be selling the car after making some changes for the European markets. Further, the cars will be sold through Volkswagen’s own network. According to a source, a team from Volkswagen visited MSI’s facility and zeroed in on ‘A Star’ vehicle.
"I believe some discussions are going on, but I don't know anything as these are being discussed between our parent Suzuki and VW,” MSI Managing Director and CEO, Shinzo Nakanishi, was quoted as saying.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star is a successful model of the company and is being imported to more than 100 countries. In Europe, the vehicle is sold as Alto while in other regions, it is sold as Celerio.
