The Sony Walkman, the first portable personal music player ever to be designed, was ranked the best breakthrough in the field of music driven technology.
The Sony Walkman, which gave birth to the concept of music-on-the-go, has been named the best musical invention of the last 50 years in the latest edition of T3 magazine. This week also marks the 30th birthday of the walkman (the first model being the TPS-L2) which first released in Japan July 1, 1979 and which is still widely imitated even to this day.
The Walkman clearly beats the iPod of the digital revolution among other inventions like the CD and MP3 format.
