Shiney Ahuja To Face Trial In A Fast Track Court Shiney Ahuja |
The case in which Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja has been accused of raping his teenaged domestic help has been transferred to a fast track court by a Mumbai local court on Thursday.
The transfer to the fast track court comes almost 10 weeks after the actor was arrested from his residence. Maharashtra Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan, had told earlier that the case against the actor will be moved to a fast track to provide the victim justice as soon as possible.
"Presently, his (Shiney's) bail application is pending before a Sessions court and will come up for hearing tomorrow (Friday). Thereafter, it will be known when this trial will be taken up before the fast track court (in Sewri)," Chief Public Prosecutor R.V. Keni told.
Keni added that the trail which is scheduled to start by September end will be completed within two weeks.
"There are some two dozen witnesses lined up but we (the prosecution) may not (need) to examine them all," he said.
The hearings in the fast track court would be conducted on a day-to-day basis, Keni added.
The judicial custody of the actor had been extended till Aug 27. A bail application will be filed for the actor on Friday by his lawyer. But Keni has revealed that the granting of the bail will be decided by fast track court.
Shiney will have to serve a jail term of minimum seven years if the charges against him are proved in court.
