SEZ Exports Witnesses A 50% growth in 2008-09 Jyotiraditya M. Scindia |
Even though the overall exports of India have witnessed a slowdown due to recession in 2008-09, the SEZs have witnessed a positive growth for the last fiscal, which is about 50%.
"The value of exports made from SEZs during 2008-09 was Rs.99,689 crore against Rs.66,638 crore in the previous year, an increase over 50 percent," said Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.
During 2008-09, India's total exports registered a growth of 3.5% as compared to 29.1 percent during the previous year.
The slow growth of exports was primarily due to the global slowdown from the second half last fiscal, the minister said.
