The Galaxy i7500, Samsung’s Android smartphone, the first Samsung smartphone to use Android Operating System from Google, is slated for a release in Europe by June end. The rest of the world will see the release in the latter half of the year. The smartphone is likely to cost around US $400 (€300). It would cost around Rs 25,000 in India.

Galaxy is a 11.9-mm thin handset. The phone has a 3.2-inch Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode (AMOLED) touchscreen. The touchscreen is made of tempered glass. It has a 5 MP camera with video recording and virtual QWERTY keyboard. It is equipped with GPS, W-Fi, and WCDMA support. The phone features haptic feedback, the first of its kind for a major touchscreen smartphone.

Haptic feedback is the use of sense of touch in a user interface design to give information to an end user. In mobiles, it means the use of vibrations from the handset’s vibration alarm to let know that a touchscreen button has been pressed.

The Galaxy can access many services from Google like Gmail, maps, YouTube, and GTalk. The phone supports MP3, WMA, AAC, and H.264.

The fact that the Galaxy uses AMOLED screen, consumes less power than the iPhone’s TFT-LCD screens, thus enhancing the life of the battery. This feature, coupled with  the haptic feedback, looks more attractive and consumer-friendly for those who are yet to buy a smartphone.
