Riteish Deshmukh Gets Serious-Says He’s Not ‘All Comedy’ Riteish Deshmukh |
Riteish Deshmukh, who received accolades for his performance in 'Rann', said that he has the ability to portray serious characters as well apart from his usual comical roles.
'Rann' which was directed by Ram Gopal Verma had Riteish playing a serious journalist, far from his usual comical roles. The other two principal characters in the movie were played by Amitabh Bachchan and Paresh Rawal.
This is not the first time Riteish is playing a serious character. He has, in fact, done it several times before for Ramu, be it his guest appearance in 'Naach' or his role in 'Darna Mana Hai' , Riteish has always delivered quality work.
When asked if he okays serious roles only to RGV, he said that it is, in fact, the other way round as only Ramu approaches him with such roles. He said, “On the contrary I would say that rather than me making such exceptions, it is only Ramu who comes to me with such roles. At least there is one director out there who thinks of me differently from the rest.”
He also said that when he was offered 'Rann' he was curious and asked Ramu the reason behind it. He said, “I had an interesting conversation with Ramu where I asked him point blank when no one casts me in anything other than a comic role, how come he thinks of me differently? To which he replied that right from the day he met me, he looked at the serious side of my personality as well. He considered me to be a serious guy in real life and hence wanted to cast me in a different zone."
With the confidence shown in him by Ramu, Riteish is confident that even other film makers would recognise his versatility as an actor. He said, “I am open to all kinds of roles. Eventually I hope when people conceive non-comic characters, they think of me as well.”
