Rihanna performed Bob Marley's uplifting redemption song on Oprah in America on Wednesday (20, Jan10) and dedicated the tune to the people of Haiti.

The singer agreed to appear on the TV show as part of an hour-long special dealing with the struggles in Haiti following last week's (12,Jan10) devastating earthquake.

Rihanna chose to say very little, but sang a tune she revealed she listens to in times of desperation.

She said, "Growing up, anytime there was a difficult situation, I always listened to this song 'cos it was so liberating.

"Even now I listen to it when my back is up against the wall and I feel like the people Haiti need to hear something inspiring."

Maxwell also performed on Oprah's Haiti special. The songs the two R&B stars performed are now available as downloads via Oprah's website - all proceeds from sales will go to the relief effort.

Rihanna will join Jay-Z and U2 stars Bono and The Edge for another Haiti-inspired performance as part of George Clooney's Hope For Haiti Now telethon on Friday night (22,Jan10). Maxwell will also perform.
