Peepli Live’ which shows the pathetic condition of Indian farmers and deals with the strong subject of farmers’ suicide will compete for Oscar award in the Best Foreign Film category at the 83rd Academy Awards.
Supran Sen, secretary general of the Film Federation of India quoted, “Peepli Live has been selected as India`s official entry for the Oscars out of 27 films.”
Anusha Rizvi, the director of Peepli Live’ couldn’t hide her happiness and is overwhelmed with the news.
It is also believed that the Prime Minister of India also appreciated the movie after watching it at the special screening organised for him and his family members and few close friends.
After Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par, this will be third trip for Aamir to the Oscars.
‘Peepli Live’ that explores the topic of farmer suicides and the subsequent media and political response is written and directed by Anusha Rizvi in her directorial debut, and produced by Aamir Khan Productions. The film stars Naya Theatre company member Omkar Das Manikpuri as well as Naseeruddin Shah, Raghubir Yadav, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shalini Vatsa and Malaika Shenoy. The movie tells the story of two poor farmers who are on the verge of losing their land after failing to pay debt following poor monsoon rains.
