An appeal court has overturned a $20 million judgment awarded to Michael Jackson's lawyer after he sued jet company bosses for secretly filming the superstar on a 2003 flight.

The 2nd District Court of Appeal ruled on Monday (11Jan10) the multi-million dollar amount against now-defunct firm XtraJet and its owner, Jeffrey Borer, was excessive.

Jackson was filmed talking with attorney Mark Geragos while flying on an XtraJet plane from Las Vegas to Santa Barbara, California, to face up to child molestation charges. Jackson was later acquitted of the charges.

Borer pleaded guilty in 2006 to federal charges of conspiring to record Jackson.

According to a popular website, Geragos - who received $18 million of the pay-out - was told he could either accept $750,000 or seek a new trial.

His attorney Brian Kabateck tells the Los Angeles Times, "I think we're going be retrying this case."
