Michael Jackson, Mary J. Blige and Naomi Campbell have been honoured by a leading African-American college for their contributions to the fashion and entertainment industries.
 
Marlon Jackson stepped in to accept the Avant-Garde Award for his brother, the late King of Pop, at the annual Thurgood Marshall College Fund gala in New York City on Monday (26Oct09), while Blige received the Breaking Barriers accolade for her music achievements and philanthropy.
 
Supermodel Campbell was recognised for her longstanding runway career with the Fashion Icon Award and Oprah Winfrey's stylist Andre Walker also picked up a prize for his work.
 
The Thurgood Marshall College Fund provides scholarships and support to struggling students at historically black colleges and universities.
