Mercedes-Benz company is planning to launch G–Wagen (Gelandewagen) in India on February 14th, 2011. As this car is known world-wide for its solid built and for its utility value, this opening will be keenly watched in India.
On Feb 14th Monday, as the world will be celebrating Valentine ’s day, this G-Wagen car get launched at Juhu Aerodrome in Mumbai. The company will also set up a test ground where the vehicle’s potential will be showed to the general public.
Though G-wagen was initially an army-vehicle in 1970, the civilian version wagon got rolled out in 1979. Over time, it got electronically-locking differentials and anti-lock brakes.
As of now, the wagon is of two types in the US. One is the G550 SUV and the other is G55 AMG. The G550 SUV is motorized by using a 5.5 litre, V8 engine or it can produce about 382 bhp. It is mated to a 7-speed auto transmission and has got a seating capacity of 5 adults & 2, 262 litres of cargo space when the back seats gets folded-up.
The G 55’s figure will be somewhat familiar to Indians as the body was adapted to the Tata Sumo and the Tempo Trax initially. And most likely, this vehicle or G55 AMG can get launched as a completely built unit in India.
Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen can travel on almost any kind of roads in India. This vehicle will come for about 24,450 dollars in the U.S. market. That means it will come for about 56 lakh rupees in India. But, add up import duties.
