Indians, who love to own and flaunt a Sports Utility Vehicle now, have one more option to choose from. Tata Motors-owned Land Rover has launched its SUV, Freelander 2, in India on Sep 22.
This Land Rover SUV is being projected as a high-end yet coma pact SUV which will give a boost to your urban ‘lifestyle’. Freelander comes in three models – S, HS and HSE. You have both the petrol, V6, and four-pot diesel, which is turbocharged, variations.
The V6 with a 320cc yields a power of 230 bhp whereas the diesel variation which is a storehouse of 2.2 litres yields torque of 40.8 kgm and a power of 158 bhp. The diesel one, that is equipped with non-Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Euro-III compliance, is the one which has hit the Indian market right now.
Diesel version of Freelander sprints at 0-100 kph in 10.9 seconds where as the petrol version does a 0-100 kph in 8.4 seconds.
The Terrain Response System, a speciality package from Land Rover, is available for Freelander. This will especially be useful for those who drive out in the dirt with 4WD system.
The Freelander S version comes in Mumbai at an ex-showroom price tag of Rs.33.8 lakh, whereas you have to pay Rs.39 lakh and Rs.45 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai price tags) for HS and HSE versions respectively.
By 2010, there will be dealer selling this SUV in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, New Delhi and Ludhiana.
Land Rover is planning to roll out Range Rover Sport, Range Rover and Discovery in 2010.
