Four-Day Test Cricket Being Considered David Morgan |
The ICC is considering four-day test matches as an innovation to the keep the oldest form of the game exciting in the wake of the popularity of Twenty20 version. ICC President David Morgan said that the ICC board is determined to ensure that test cricket is at the pinnacle of the game.
He added that there is a need to have better over-rates and better pitches to have a good balance of bat and ball. He also raised the topic of day-night test cricket. The colour of the ball and its quality will be an issue that has to be dealt with. It will be a pity if day-night test match is played with a white ball and thus coloured clothing. A four-day test cricket is the new innovation going through the thought-process now.
Morgan is expecting some of the innovations to be carried out in a year’s time. He said that the mental shift has been made, talked about, and examined. The ICC is considering alternatives for the traditional red ball used in test matches at present. The red ball will be unsuitable under lights for day-night test cricket.
Last week, the ICC announced tough measures on boards providing bad pitches and doubled the fines for slow over-rates.
