Leading midfielder David Beckham will be honoured with BBC Sports Personality Lifetime Achievement award on Sunday for his outstanding contribution to the sports.

The BBC Sports event will honour the star who has won six Premier League titles and also recorded the Champions League victory with Manchester United.

Earlier in 2001, the 35-year old was crowned with BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

Carl Doran, the BBC Sports Personality of the Year editor was quoted as saying, “David`s record on and off the pitch has been remarkable.”

“It’s a fitting reward for an outstanding career as a player and for his tireless work as an ambassador for British sport. He has also been a tremendous role model and I’m sure he’ll get an amazing reaction from the public in Birmingham,” Carl added.

Beckham's career began when he signed a professional contract with Manchester United, making his first-team debut in 1992 aged 17. During his time there, United won the Premier League title six times, the FA Cup twice and the UEFA Champions League in 1999.

Beckham is married to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham. The pair has three sons and currently resides in Beverly Hills, California.
