Aamir Khan is highly elated over the entry of his next production venture "Peepli Live" into the Sundane Film Festival 2010. The movie is Anusha Rizvi's directorial debut and is a black comedy about rural life in India. The film festival is scheduled to start from January 21, 2010.
Aamir wrote in his blog www.aamirkhan.com/blog on Friday, “I am so happy and proud of my writer-director Anusha Rizvi. 'Peepli Live' has been selected at the Sundance Film Festival in the competition section... If I'm not mistaken, it is the first Indian feature film to make it to the competition section there." Aamir clarifies that the film is not about farmer suicides.
"Incidentally, this is the same film that a section of the media has been erroneously reporting as being about farmer suicides. It's not about farmer suicides. It has also been reported that the film is called 'Falling'. Both errors," he wrote.
"'Peepli Live', is a satire, a black comedy about rural life in India. Except for Raghuvir Yadav, most of the actors are facing the camera for the first time, so a predominantly new cast, many of them of Adivasi origin from Madhya Pradesh."
"I haven't spoken about the film before as I like to be sure about how the film has turned out before I speak about it. I am rather happy with the way the film has turned out. I am looking forward to see what kind of response it gets at Sundance. Fingers crossed," Aamir wrote.
