Compact cameras are manufactured with the sole purpose of being sold to the common man. The common man would like to click his family, the little and not-so little happiness that make his life worthwhile and possibly a few family vacations that he takes with his family to picturesque places. There is, however, one thing common between all the situations stated above – pictures of family gatherings and picturesque vacations need wide angle focal lengths to be able to capture the full view. Thus, many aficionados claim that a good consumer camera shouldn’t come without wide angle. The Ricoh Caplio R7, for instance, snugly fits into this bracket of a consumer’s camera, with a resolution of 8.15mp and 7.1x wide angles optical zoom of focal range of 28mm to 200m.
Design and FunctioningThe Ricoh Caplio R7 is a very compact digital camera that easily fits in the palm of one’s hand, making carrying it in a trouser/shirt pocket or a handbag, extremely easy. It has an under-stated appearance that is fairly attractive, though people do keep running into better designs of cameras. This point and shoot camera comes with 10 external controls in totality, leaving plenty of room for the large 2.7 inch LCD screen that dominates the back of the camera. The R7 is available in colours like Vibrant Orange, Metallic Silver and Midnight Black. Smooth Imaging Engine III reduces the noise that can occur in high-sensitivity photography, without loss of resolution. As a result, even with high-sensitivity photography, crisp outlines are preserved and clear, non-grainy images are possible. Still images in the camera can be rotated 90 degrees and then recorded, with the image rotation function. The Caplio R7 contains Ricoh’s original CCD-shift vibration correction function which compensates for camera shake when it is detected. Face recognition mode automatically identifies faces in a scene and automatically adjusts the focus, exposure, and white balance for best results. Ricoh most signatory feature, the Adj or the Adjust button (joystick?), has been updated too. A cross-key function has been added to the ADJ. (Adjust) button, which makes it easy to switch exposure compensation, white balance, ISO sensitivity, and other settings to reflect the preferences of the photographer. As a result, menu operations can be operated quickly and easily with one hand. The Ricoh R7 contains 24MB of internal memory and is compatible with MMC cards apart from SD/SDHC cards.
