Some of the compact analogue cameras that we are used to seeing as children sported designs that have been etched in our minds permanently. Having grown up looking at these cameras we have often wished that new digital camera could also come up with such a design that looks and feels like some of the first compact cameras used. With the coming of the Pentax Optio H90, the same design has been revived and the camera has become retro again, only sporting an LCD monitor instead of a viewfinder. This camera bears a resolution of 12.1mp and a wide angle zoom with a range of 5x.
Design and FunctioningLooking at the Pentax Optio H90, one is reminded of art gallery inspired aesthetics with an ultra slim design and fashionable styling, a retro box-type look that brings to one’s mind images of the old compact cameras that have been used all our lives. The Optio H90 features the sophisticated Face Detection AF & AE function, a great tool in casual shooting of people – its face Detection function is capable of detecting up to 32 faces. Its Digital Panorama mode can be used to create a single panoramic picture from as many as three images. It also comes with the Image Recovery function, which helps to recover accidentally erased images. Its Digital Wide function can be used to compose an extra-wide-angle picture, which is equivalent to an image taken with an approximately 21mm lens in 35mm format, from two images. he Optio H90 also comes equipped with other convenient features to assist the photographer in capturing beautiful snapshots, including: the Smile Capture mode that automatically releases the shutter the moment the camera detects the subject’s smile; and the Blink Detection function that warns the photographer when the subject’s eyes close at the time of shutter release. It contains internal memory of about 32MB and is compatible with SD/SDHC cards.
