If the last few years would be remembered in for anything as far as the world of imaging is concerned, it would be the introduction of the Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds system. They brought to the fore cameras that were lightweight and adaptable to a larger range of lenses. Since these cameras came without a mirror pentaprism, they were lightweight and yet gave the same control and professional output of the DSLR. Panasonic, in fact, was the first camera manufacturer to come up with a mirrorless micro four thirds camera, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1. Now, with the introduction of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2, it takes the same baton forward. This is a 12.1-megapixel micro four thirds camera.
Design and FunctioningThe Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 is outwardly very similar to both the DMC-G1 camera; the G2, however, comes with a rotating, free-angle LCD monitor. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 is a handsome yet understated camera with majority of its body covered in a tactile rubber compound, which adds a hard-wearing, protective coating. It also comes in attractive colours of Black, Plum Red and Royal Blue. The G2 gets touch screen technology; this is the first interchangeable lens camera with a touch sensitive screen. The Full-time Live View lets the user check his or her image even before it is shot. Dust entering the camera while changing the lens is one of the biggest problems with interchangeable lens system cameras. The Dust Reduction System in the DMC-G2 helps eliminate this possibility. The DMC-G2 features the same iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode as the LUMIX compact models; he newly incorporated Intelligent Resolution technology is always activated in the iA Mode which results in the clearer and higher image quality. Additionally there is a custom mode, marked CUST, which allows the user to configure his favourite settings and quickly access them. This camera is compatible with SD/SDHC cards.
