Canon’s lenses are known to have left many other established brands behind in terms of state of the art technology. Though they are best known for prime lenses (lenses with one standard focal length), their zoom lenses, both wide angle and telephoto, are equally sought after. This time, they combined one of their finest mid range SLR camera, the Canon EOS 500D, with an acclaimed wide angle lens, the Canon EF-S18-55mm. This 15.1mp DSLR camera is also known as one of Canon’s first SLRs to come with HD video recording.
Design and FunctioningWhen it comes to Canon’s range of DSLRs, one knows that they have never gone wrong. The Canon EOS 500D is designed like its predecessor EOS 450D, which recorded largest sale in terms of mid range DSLRs. Its magnesium alloy body is tough and offers a steady grip. Canon's 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS is the latest in its line of inexpensive DSLR kit lenses which began with the original 18-55mm. It is slightly longer than its predecessor and its minimum focus distance has been reduced from 0.28m to 0.25m, offering a welcome increase in maximum magnification from 0.28x to 0.34x. This camera also provides the 'A-DEP' (Automatic Depth of Field) function that gives a wider depth of field between a near and far subject. The 500D can record Full HD 1080p video as well as 720p and VGA quality footage, and is the second Canon DSLR to offer video recording after the professional 5D Mark II model. It is compatible with SD/SDHC cards.
