Kurbaan Review Kurbaan |
Director; Rensil D'Silva
Producer: Karan Johar
Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Dia Mirza, Om Puri, Kirron Kher
Despite being the fact that Kurbaan is based on a plot similar to that of New York and Fanaa, this movie from Rensil D'Silva is an entirely different one with the issue being a very hot one. The movie depicts the psyche of a terrorist, along with the state of mind of a spectator, who sees everything, but yet has to remain silent.
This is one among those movies which is much more than just an entertainment. It enlightens and educates the audience, in the process of trying to make a beetr place to live in.
Kareena, who essays Avantika, is a professor at Delhi University who falls for her colleague, Ehsaan Khan, essayed by Saif Ali Khan. Few months later, she receives a call from New York, wher she had been working before, asking her to comeback. When Ehsaan is informed about this, he mentions that he does not have issues with the idea, but only that they need to tie the knot before they leave.
Soon the couple enter the wedlock and leave for New York, where they choose an Indian neighbourhood, near a conservative Muslim family, for stein up their home. The neighbours invite them for dinner. Soon afterwards, Salma, one of the women Kareena met during the dinner, and informs her that she is in danger and pleads for help. The events which follow lead Avantika into danger, during which she realises that she is just a pawn in the game.
The movie is a combination of two stories, running simultaneously, one is the beautiful romance between Saif and Kareena whereas the other is about terrorism. The movie is full of twists and Rensil has made sure that the proceedings are absolutely captivating ones.
The apex point is the climax, running to about 35 minutes, which leaves me with lack of word for appreciation.
The movie has just a minor drawback – it is exclusively meant for thinking viewers, and not a hardcore masala movie.
Cinematography by Hemant Chaturvedi is good, while the music composers Salim and Sulaiman have done good jiobs, especially with 'Shukran Allah', ‘Ali Maula’ and the title track. Dialogues by Anurag Kashyap and Niranjan Iyengar are nothing less than excellent. Thrills are completely in sync with the plot.
Saif has once again proved that he is indeed a versatile actor, while there are no apt words for describing the acting showcased by the beautiful Kareena. No other person would have fit to these characters so perfectly.
The surprise element of the movie is Vivek Oberoi. His each and every action matches Said and Kareena. Om Puri, once again, hats off with Kirron Kher has done justice to her Afghan character.
Kurbaan is one among the most powerful Hindi movies for this year. Kurbaan is a must-watch for this weekend.
